In
two hundred kilometers from Saint-Petersburg, on a bank of the river
Ojat the monastery, now known as Vvedeno-Ojatsky settles down. But
before it was closed after the October Revolution, its name was
Vvedensky Ostrovskoj monastery. The time of foundation of this monastery
with accuracy is not known - any data on it was not kept. But it
is doubtless that in XV century the monastery already existed.
Till
1764 the Vvedensky Ostrovskoj monastery has been attributed to big
Aleksandro-Svirskij monastery and only after this date has received
independence.
The
number of brotherhood of Vvedensky Ostrovsky monastery was always
insignificant. There were two temples: the stone one, Vvedenskaya,
constructed in 1817 and a wooden one, Preobrazhenskaya, constructed
in 1782 and then reconstructed in 1836.
In
the wooden Preobrazhenskaya temple there were tombs of parents of
Saint Alexander Svirskij, esteemed Russian saint.
During the Soviet period the wooden temple has
been destroyed, and in Vvedenskaya church have been arranged a village
clubhouse. The last monks were shot down here, in the monastery
in 1930-s. Now on a place of the destroyed temple there is a cross.
In
1992 the monastery has been revived, as a nunnery. It got a new
name - Vvedeno-Ojatsky monastery.
I
have visited this monastery in 1991 when works on his restoration
just began. All monastic constructions were in a depressing condition,
we had to empty mountains of various dust from everywhere. The dilapidated
monastic bell tower became a shelter for birds. The same year near
to a monastery the sacred spring has come to life. For long years
there was no water in it, and people told about it, as about any
legend. Now it is full of water and dozens of pilgrims come to it
every year.
The monastery little by little comes to life and
restores the economy. Vvedensky temple is already restored and works,
the new top of the monastic bell tower is built up. |
